FAQs
Tallow is made from beef fat including, leaf fat found around the kidneys, saturated fat, monounsaturated fat and polyunsaturated fat. In order to create tallow you render the leaf fat, during the rendering process you remove all the impurities from the fat. After we render the leaf fat down, we run it through a filtration process multiple times. When this process is complete, the fat officially becomes tallow, which we then use to create the most natural product for you to use possible. As a saturated animal fat, tallow almost looks like a hybrid of coconut oil and butter, but with a dry, waxy texture. Tallow is considered the original ‘body butter’.
The structure of our cell membranes is made up of approximately 50% saturated fats, which is very similar to the percentage of saturated fatty acids in tallow. Fatty acids are also considered the building blocks of skin cells, which makes them an important component for skin repair and regeneration. Also, since anything we put on our bodies is absorbed through the skin, you also get some of the health benefits of tallow by applying it topically.
Our tallow comes from local butchers who source their beef from local grass-fed farms.
Tallow is a natural, sustainable, and versatile ingredient that has been used in cooking and skincare for centuries. It is rich in vitamins and minerals and has a high smoke point, making it ideal for high-heat cooking.
We believe in supporting local agriculture and promoting sustainable farming practices. Grass-fed beef is healthier for the animals and the environment, as it reduces the need for antibiotics and pesticides and helps to maintain healthy soil and grasslands.
While our tallow is not certified organic, the beef used to make it is raised without the use of antibiotics, hormones, or genetically modified feed. We believe in using natural and minimally processed ingredients in our products.
We work closely with our local butchers to ensure that the beef used to make our tallow is of the highest quality and is sourced from reputable grass-fed farms. We also use a careful rendering process to produce a pure, clean tallow that is free from impurities and contaminants.
Our tallow lotion has a shelf life of approximately 12 months from the date of purchase. However, we recommend using it within 6 months of opening to ensure maximum freshness and effectiveness.
To ensure the longevity of your tallow lotion, we recommend storing it in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Exposure to heat and sunlight can cause the ingredients to degrade and can reduce the effectiveness of the lotion.
We recommend using tallow lotion as often as needed to keep your skin moisturized and healthy. The frequency of use will depend on your skin type and individual needs. Some people may need to use the lotion once or twice a day, while others may only need to use it a few times a week.
